Black Friday Deals Part 1: Gun Safe Deal At Dicks

Black Friday Deals Part 1: Gun Safe Deal At Dicks

Black Friday Deals Part 1: Gun Safe Deal At Dicks Sporting Goods

Field and Stream 24 Gun Gun Safe for $399 at Dicks. I bought one. It was in the general range of safes I was looking at and the price was excellent.

In researching these safes I found an interesting tid bit:
Safe threads are always fun, I’ll give you the cliffs notes for the next twelve pages:

1> Someone will post that you need to spend $25k on a real safe, everything else is just a big coffee can
2> He’ll be plus one’d for a few posts
3> Then someone will post a video of that $25k safe being broken into by a toddler with a toothbrush in 13 milliseconds
4> He’ll be plus one’d for a few posts
5> Someone will post that you need to spend $50k on a real safe, everything else is just a big coffee can
6> He’ll be plus one’d for a few posts
7> Then someone will post a video of that $50k safe being broken into by a toddler with a toothbrush in 13 milliseconds
8> He’ll be plus one’d for a few posts
9> Someone will post that you need to spend $75k on a real safe, everything else is just a big coffee can
10> He’ll be plus one’d for a few posts
11> Then someone will post a video of that $75k safe being broken into by a toddler with a toothbrush in 13 milliseconds
12> He’ll be plus one’d for a few posts
13> …

End quote

I think there is a consideration of the cost of what you’re putting into the safe as to what it’s worth to protect that stuff. A millionaire with a couple vintage Holland and Holland double’s worth 75k each, and a Class III collection who keeps 250k in cash should buy really serious safes. On the other hand Average Joe with an AR, a hunting rifle, a shotgun and a few pistols probably doesn’t need to bust the families annual budget to get a safe that will work.

Given that my goal is to deter smash and grab type burglars it should be sufficient.  A pair of meth heads in a Honda Civic are not going to carry one of these off; especially if it is loaded and bolted to a concrete floor. At the end of the day any safe can be broken into, it’s just a question of how inconvenient and time consuming the process will be. Like any other home defense/ security component the goal is to be a hard enough target that the crooks go elsewhere.
