* John McLean, CMP Custom Shop manager

John McLean, CMP Custom Shop manager, will lead the instruction through streaming video presentations. Live interaction will also be available through an instant messaging format for any questions that may arise during the demonstrations.

McLean has spent over a decade with the CMP, working hands-on with rifle maintenance from the beginning. He began as an armorer in 2003 and was later promoted to technical advisor. In 2006, he was moved into the new Planning, Production and Control department, where he eventually served as manager. Six years later, in 2012, McLean was instrumental in the creation and management of the new CMP Custom Shop, where he restores rifles on a daily basis and is the lead instructor of the widely popular Advanced Maintenance Clinic.

The video presentations during the course will touch on such subjects as basic disassembly and cleaning of the M1 rifle. Close-up shots during the presentation will make it simple to see the smaller components of the rifle maintenance process.

Outside of work, he is a high power shooter, reloader, collector and general firearms enthusiast. McLean’s long list of credentials, attention to detail and patience with instructing others will provide a relaxed and informative setting for maintenance clinic participants.
