Man Tapes Cell Phone To Pen And Tries To Rob Bank In Florida

What do you do when you can’t afford a real weapon? You put on a crappy MacGyver impression and hope for the best.

59-year-old Michael Hamson walked into a Bank of America in Florida the other day, and he wasn’t there to open a checking account. Hamson walked up to the desk and slid the teller an alarming note.

He demanded money and said he had an explosive device on him. He then lifted up his shirt and revealed a container with metal clips and a cell phone taped to a pen. The teller, not wanting to take any chances, gave the man some money and activated the alarm.

A security guard followed the man out of the bank. Once in the parking lot, cops tracked him down and arrested him. Obviously, the “device” he had was not a bomb. The sheriff’s office confirmed that it was a hoax.

The saddest part about this story? Hamson had just been released from jail a week before this robbery attempt!

The poor execution and timing of this robbery leads me to believe Hamson just wanted to go back to jail. A cell phone taped to a pen? Why didn’t he just stick out his thumb and index finger and claim he had a gun?
