You can easily convert an old barrel into a barrel to grow strawberries in by boring holes in it or you can use a commercial strawberry barrel like in the above photo. If you grow strawberries in a barrel you may want to purchase special netting like in the above photo to cover your strawberries especially as they get ripe to prevent birds from eating them. If you don’t protect your strawberries with a net the birds may get all your strawberries.
You can grow more strawberries in a barrel than you will ever grow in the ground in a regular garden. When your strawberries grow up in a barrel they don’t get ground rot and the strawberries will usually be much more productive than they will if you grow them on the ground.
Just be sure to fill your barrel with great quality dirt and fertilize your strawberries often while the plants are growing and producing. You’ll be a lot better off to use a variety of strawberries that are ever bearing meaning the strawberries will bear for a much longer period of time than regular strawberries.
